Excursions and attractions in the Zillertal
Swarovski Crystal Worlds
The Swarovski Crystal Worlds are the most visited attraction in western Austria. There are crystalline works of art, a crystal theater, as well as a crystal dome, where you will feel like you are actually inside a crystal. Let yourself be transported to a world of glistening crystals. A wonderful tip for all ages.
Tratzberg Castle in Stans
By means of a fascinating audio play, emperors, knights, and other aristocratic owners of the Tratzberg will "personally" take you on a tour through the 500 year old, originally furnished castle. At the same time as their parents, children can explore the castle and the age of knights with an exciting fairy-tale tour.
Other attractions: sightseeing train, children's playground, children's birthdays at the castle.
Special highlight: evening tours with knight's feast at the castle inn. Historically clad damsels and noblemen as well as jesters and minstrels are awaiting you.
Erlebnissennerei Zilletal
The whole family is invited to experience a day of work at the dairy in completely new and never before seen ways. You can watch as cheese is being made. The cheese vats are only an arm's length away, and only a glass panel separates the visitor from the cheese makers.
After an interesting tour, there is an opportunity to sample excellent dairy and cheese products.
Riedel Crystal in Kufstein
Claus Riedel was the first in the long history of glass to achieve the characteristic shape of the wine glass. He is thus the inventor of the functional wine glass.
Seeing life in a positive light is to combine joy and pleasure. Go on a journey through the world of glass and the senses. Observe the work of glass blowers up-close and watch each step. Before this, you can enjoy the exciting and interesting multimedia show "Sinnfonie".
Local heritage museum in Zell am Ziller
Zillertal regional museum - The "Ental" farmhouse was built in 1713 (as evidenced by a date on the ridge pole) in Burgstall in Schwendau.
In order to better preserve the farmhouse, it was decided in 1991 to move this centuries-old and culturally important building from its original location and rebuild it as a museum in Zell am Ziller.
Zillertal gold mine
Gold in Zell in the Zillertal - The underground world is combined with an adventure hike. The hike starts at the cheese dairy including the dairy museum and animal park and leads past the Flörlmoos chapel and Hainzenberg local heritage museum. It continues via the Maria Rast pilgrimage chapel through the forest to the gold mine.
The conclusion of this excursion is the so-called "Knappensäule", where miners used to thank the Virgin Mary for keeping them safe in the mine.
Talbach waterfall
The waterfall is located between Laimach and Zellberg and can be reached on a leisurely hike in ca. 45 min. from Zell. A new via ferrata climb was opened here in spring 2016.
Maria Rast
The "Maria Rast" pilgrimage church was built in the most magnificent panoramic location above Zell am Ziller on the Hainzenberg.
In 1914, the tower that faced the valley was destroyed by a landslide. The church had to be supported by an elaborate substructure. Stefan Föger from Innsbruck created the splendid Rococo altar with a statue of the Virgin Mary. You can also marvel at excellent stucco work and frescoes by J.M. Schmutzer from Wessobrunn.
